Window Herb Gardens

Unless you live in the world's worst apartment/dorm, you have a window. Why not make that window work for you? Consider planting a window herb garden.

I used to have a pot full of various herbs at my parents house. Unfortunately I forgot about it, and they all went to plant heaven. This doesn't have to happen to you, of course. You are probably a better plant parent than I was.

A quick Amazon.com search yielded a plethora of options. The first one that came up was way out of my budget, but a quick scroll in the downward direction put me in the right direction.

Herb Kits has quite a few listed, and are as low as $8.95. The only downside I can see to buying these are that only one herb is in each kit.

Chia has a kit for around $15, and it includes four herbs, including parsley, dill, chives, and basil. This kit also includes two bonus packets of seeds (cilantro and marjoram). There are only four pots and four "growing sponges" included though, so the bonus seeds will have to find somewhere else to grow.

Herbs are a great way to add flavor, color, and elegance to even the most boring of foods. Mac and cheese looks like something off of the Food Network with a parsley garnish! I hope you give growing your own herbs a chance. It certainly pays off in the long run.

(Thanks to Seth for the idea!)

A Little Bit About Me...

Well, here goes. I started this blog because I love food. I love all kinds of food, American food, Chinese food, and things that come from a box.

The problem, however, is that I'm a broke. I'm a college student and am currently unemployed. I like to pretend that school is my job, but unfortunately, school doesn't give you a paycheck.

So how do I feed my addiction to the delicious? By being creative and budget-conscious. It is possible to eat well on a budget!

Cheap food doesn't have to mean crummy food. The ingredients can be generic, and the end product gourmet (well, at least as close to gourmet as I can get).

Cheers,

Katie
